Scales of Fate

Summary

Scales of Fate is a tabletop role-playing game in a medieval fantasy setting. SoF offers unique gameplay and strategy through two revolutionary resource systems, a classless character system for maximum freedom and role-playing potential and allows for true variety in play through fair rules and mathematically based game balance.

Inspired from giants such as Dungeons & Dragons, but mainly the German role-playing game: Das Schwarze Auge.
Scales of Fate  mainly tries to improve the tabletop RPG model in the areas of game balance, strategic depth, and freedom in character creation. This is achieved through a unifying mathematical balancing model, two unique resource systems and a classless character creation system that allows every player to create his/her own class and play exactly the character they’ve always wanted. Through numerous talents, skills, abilities, weapons, animal companions and more, there are thousands of possible character builds and playstyles and all are made to be viable.
Fleshed out crafting and professions, a personality sheet for in-depth role-playing and a combat system with unparalleled strategy, through abilities without cooldowns that can be used with ingenious synergy and smart timing to unleash their maximum potential.

This is, what Scales of Fate was built to offer.
This and more, is what players and game master can expect.

And with that,
welcome to the word of Scales of Fate,
welcome to Eldermur.

This is the introduction text I wrote for the game project I started in July 2019. I have had the idea for this game a long time now and since I began developing, most of my free time has been passionately dedicated to it.

With support from a good friend, we have already laid down all the basic rules and created most of the things promised in the introduction text above.

Scales of Fate already features over 60 unique physical and magical abilities without cooldowns, 83 different weapons and 81 talents for magic, combat, survival, social interaction, crafting and profession. It possesses a class-less character system, two unique time resource systems: Focus and Effort-Points and a personality sheet template for optimal role-playing. And everything that needs to be balanced, is balanced with the support of the unifying mathematical balancing model.

We are currently mainly working on creating more creatures and animals for our players to encounter and even to summon as Minions and companions and even to shape-shift into.

Crafting and professions is the last big aspect of the game that is yet largely unfinished, but will be worked on soon.

More playable races, religions and ultimate abilities are also on the to-do list of possible extension and expansions. And even a special software, written to play the game with digital support may be coming.

Development is going well and with luck, it won't be too long, before the starter version of Scales of Fate will be available to the public.
